These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the FoodLife app, provided by The Bateau Group, LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms. Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies; where the two differ, these Terms control to the extent Apple's agreement allows.
Who Can Use It
You must be 18 or older to use FoodLife. It is a food planning and tracking app for adults and is not intended for children.
Use of the App
FoodLife helps you plan meals, shop, keep track of your pantry and log what you eat. Its targets and grades are only as good as the information you give it, so keep your profile accurate. The app is for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please don't misuse it: don't try to break, overload, copy or reverse-engineer the app or the service behind it, get around its limits or its payment, or use it for anything unlawful.
Subscriptions
FoodLife is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, at the price shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. Your subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends; manage or cancel it any time in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. If a free trial or introductory price is offered, its terms are shown before you buy, and any unused part of a free trial ends when you subscribe. Purchases are handled by Apple, and refunds are requested from Apple under its policies. If the price changes, Apple tells you before it applies to you.
Fair Use of the Assistant
Your subscription includes a generous amount of the assistant that reads photos and answers in chat: far more than normal daily use needs. If you reach it, the assistant rests until your next billing period (on the yearly plan, until the next month starts), and the app shows when it comes back. Everything else in the app keeps working.
AI-Generated Answers
The assistant uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude) to read photos and messages and to suggest meals, quantities and nutrition figures. Its answers can be wrong: a misread label, a wrong portion, a missed ingredient. Check anything that matters against the package, especially allergens, and don't rely on the app to keep you safe from an allergy.
Not Medical Advice
FoodLife provides general wellness information and calculated estimates based on common formulas (such as the Mifflin-St Jeor equation). It is not a medical device, is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and is not a substitute for professional medical, nutritional, or fitness advice. Consult a qualified healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet or exercise routine, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication, have a medical condition, or have had an eating disorder.
Accuracy of Information
Macro and calorie targets, grades, pantry counts, food data and meal suggestions are estimates and may not be perfectly accurate. Always use your own judgment.
Your Data
What stays on your phone, what leaves it and the choices you have are described in our Privacy Policy (https://bateaugroup.com/products/foodlife/privacy). There is no account: what you save lives on your phone and in your iPhone's backup. If you delete the app or lose your phone without a backup, it cannot be recovered, because we do not have a copy.
Our App
The app, its design, text and software belong to The Bateau Group, LLC and its licensors. Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it on Apple devices you own or control, as Apple's terms allow. Food data and photos from others, such as Open Food Facts, remain under their own licences.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The app is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy, and we don't promise the app will be uninterrupted or error-free. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Bateau Group, LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the app, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Ending Your Use
You can stop using FoodLife at any time by deleting it and cancelling your subscription. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these Terms.
Disputes
If something goes wrong, email legal@bateaugroup.com first and we will try to resolve it with you within 30 days. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. A dispute we can't resolve informally will be heard in the state or federal courts in Summit County, Ohio, except that either of us may bring a claim in small claims court where it qualifies. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the place you live.
Changes to the App and Terms
We may modify or discontinue features of the app at any time. We may update these Terms; we will tell you in the app about material changes, and continuing to use the app after they take effect means you accept them.
